Oleksiy Potapenko was born in 1939 in Slobozhanshchyna, but has been living and working in Chernihiv for many years.
Since the 90s, Oleksiy Potapenko has been intensively developing the Ukrainian theme in his paintings, which combine avant-garde with the magic formulas of traditional Ukrainian culture. He is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and an Honored Artist of Ukraine. The artist's works are kept in the galleries of the Chernihiv Art Museum, the Taras Shevchenko National Museum, and in private collections of Ukraine and the world.
